Liverpool Will Not Alter Offensive Approach Despite Recent Slump, Insists Slot
The Dutch manager has stated that the team leadership share his views regarding the poor performance streak and he refuses to compromise their offensive approach in search of a solution. The manager admitted that six defeats in seven outings was unacceptable ahead of Aston Villa's visit.
Increasing Scrutiny During Challenging Phase
Slot accepted the expectations were high before his altered lineup exited the Carabao Cup against their Premier League rivals. However, he maintained that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the club's ownership or football administration following a significant spending of nearly £450 million.
"Our views align," stated the manager, whose squad will encounter Los Blancos in the European competition and visit Pep Guardiola's side in the domestic competition.
Player Depth Stays Undoubted
The coach is convinced his team "possess an exceptional group if they are fully healthy and completely set for the programme we are facing". He noted that the recent signings in players such as the attacking midfielder and Alexander Isak, who is expected to be sidelined again against the Birmingham club through physical problems, had left the club "in a strong situation for the immediate prospects and the distant prospects".
Gelling Difficulties
When asked why his team were having difficulty blending, he answered: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I give an explanation and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can come up with five or six reasons why we are not winning as much or suffering defeats as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are never enough excuses to have a run of form as we had now."
- Regardless of whether I could list multiple factors
- Leading this club you cannot lose
- The reality is six out of seven
Defensive Numbers
Only Burnley (21) have faced more big chances from regular play this season than Liverpool (19). The league leaders, Arsenal, have faced two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the defense has been too vulnerable and asserts there is no reason to abandon offensive philosophy for a more pragmatic style after ten fixtures without a shutout.
"From my perspective we don't allowing many opportunities so I see no justification to change our playing style totally but we have to enhance in not conceding goals," he stated.
Recent Examples
"Versus the Red Devils, how many chances did we concede? When playing Frankfurt when we were ahead by two goals, we barely allowed a shot on target. In all the games we have played so far we haven't allowed a many opportunities. Not at all. We do concede a somewhat more than the previous campaign but that stems from us being 1-0 down so you take a bit more risk. But overall I don't think that our challenge is that we give up too many openings. Our problem is we are unable to finish the openings we produce."
