PSG Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.
PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.
Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.
The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.
Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.
In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.
Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
